Botha made his Fedhealth IMPI Challenge Elite Race debut in April this year where he claimed gold at the Fedhealth IMPI Elite Race #1 at Coetzenburg (Stellenbosch).

“I enjoy the IMPI Elite Race because it is tough,” says Botha.  Mentally and physically the race is on another level. There is nothing quite like it. It is original and unique in every sense.  There’s an IMPI Challenge in Cape Town, Durban and Gauteng.  I believe that each venue will offer a particular set of challenges.  I’d like to defend my Cape Town title in Durban. I now have a feel for the event and kind of know what to expect.”

“KZN is, however, the lair of the master, Mr Claude Eksteen,” continues Botha. “It won’t be an easy task if he decides to toe the line on the day.  I love racing against him though, as he is such a classy athlete.”

The 2018 Fedhealth IMPI Challenge #2 in Durban boasts an impressive combined prize purse of R43 000 with the Men’s and Women’s Elite Race winners guaranteed a whopping R10 000 each.

It’s fantastic when sponsors and organisers come together to offer elite athletes such an incredible prize.  A prize purse makes it possible to cover all our expenses and allows us to focus on the next big event.”

When asked about advice for newcomers to the sport, Botha had the following to offer:  “Don’t over think it, no matter how daunting the task may seem. See the race as a journey, an experience. You learn so much about yourself when faced with a challenge. You grow stronger and more confident. To be active, able and willing to push your limits is an incredible energy. Once you feel that energy and fire inside of you, you’ll be amazed at what you are capable of doing. Ease into the swing of things and don’t go out guns a blazing. Make sure that you are well hydrated and well fuelled.  Grab a friend, make some memories and mingle afterwards. I’d love to hear from some of the newcomers after the race. My first Fedhealth IMPI Elite Race was one of the most wonderful moments in my racing career!”
