SA hopefuls ready for XTERRA World Championship

Ten XTERRA SA hopefuls will proudly fly the flag on Sunday, 29 October 2017 when they line up to take on the world’s best at the XTERRA World Championship in Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii.  All eyes will be on the Elite Men’s race where SA’s golden boy, Bradley Weiss (Stellenbosch), will be gunning to make his mark.  “This will be the third time that I race at the XTERRA World Championship,” says Weiss.  “I competed in my first XTERRA in 2011 and went to the World Championship for the first time in 2014.  There have been many highlights throughout my triathlon career, but my two proudest achievements would be winning our National XTERRA SA Title in 2016 and winning the XTERRA European Final in Denmark earlier this year.  I am hoping to execute the race that I know I am capable of.  I feel I have paid my dues at this stage and have the necessary experience not to make the same mistakes.  If I can cross the finish line knowing that I have executed my best race I will be very satisfied. The competitive nature of this race is second to none. I love how close the battle is each year. Murray, Duffy crowned Fedhealth XTERRA SA Champions

Olympians Richard Murray (South Africa) and Flora Duffy (Bermuda) claimed the coveted men’s and women’s Champions title at the 2017 Fedhealth XTERRA South African Championship in Grabouw on Saturday, 25 February 2017.  Murray completed the 1.5km swim, 26km MTB, 12.5km trail run in a lightning fast time of 02 hours 22 minutes 46 seconds, while Duffy claimed gold in 02 hours 39 minutes.

Riddle, Preen victors at Fedhealth XTERRA Lite in Grabouw

A strong field of young aspiring triathletes was seen toeing the line at South Africa’s premier off-road triathlon, the Fedhealth XTERRA Lite in Grabouw on Sunday, 26 February 2017.   Making his XTERRA Grabouw debut on the day, Jamie Riddle (Stellenbosch) was pulling no punches completing the 400m swim, 15km MTB and 6.5km trail run in a lightning fast combined time of 01 hour 09 minutes 34 seconds.
