And so, the new Open Water Swimming Season is upon us and with that, the entries for the Dis-Chem Sun City Swim will be opening at the beginning of August. With events like the 3000m, 1500m and 600m fun swim there is something for the whole family, so diarise Saturday the 18th of October for a fun family day out. Each year this event has grown, and the same can be said for the 2014 swim, as we are planning for 4000 entrants across all the events.
With a new season comes some new excitement. The Dis-Chem Sun City Swim will now be classified as a Midmar Mile seeding event. Along with this, swimmers will not need to bring chips along to the race, or purchase one, as each swimmer will receive a chip which will be used for the day and returned after their event.
Along with this news, we have some amazing sponsors for this year’s swim. With Dis-Chem and Sun City remaining as our title sponsors, we have the likes of Speedo, Super Group, Garrun Group, PharmaChoice, Biogen, Bené and Voltaren each bringing their own element to the swim.
This year, Voltaren will be sponsoring the beautiful finishing medals given to everyone that completes their event, as well as supplying needed shade with their gazebos for the Lifeguards and the Finish line helpers.
Garrun Group will be supplying participants with Free Personal Accident Cover, if they accept the offer, as well as giving away 1000 branded beach balls to children on the lawns at the swim.
The Dis-Chem Sun City Swim has two charities which benefit from the swim, being Little Eden and Kidney Beanz Trust, each charity being renowned for the work that they do. In 2014, R5 from each pre-entry fee will be donated to these charities, and entrants are asked to make voluntary donations. These voluntary donations will be matched by The Dis-Chem Foundation.
Little Eden are based in Edenvale and care for persons with Intellectual Disability. Their mission is to care for, develop and enhance the quality of life, with love and understanding from a dedicated staff. Kidney Beanz Trust is based at the Morningside Medi-Clinic and supports children with life-threatening kidney disease. The need for support, financial and psycho-social, to the children and their families during such devastating times, was realised and so Kidney Beanz Trust was founded.
