Some people choose to be totally unreachable when training. In Oprah’s terms, it’s their “me-time”. Other people need to be contactable 24/7 for business, family, safety, or other reasons. “Me-time” is not an option. Out of necessity I am always running and cycling with my phone, and this is where Smart Notifications came to the rescue.
Prior to my Garmin Fenix 3, I had to stop, pause my watch and dig my phone out of my back pocket when a call or sms came in. More than often it was something that could have waited. Moving time subtracted from elapsed time have indicated I have lost up to 20 minutes on some long rides and runs.
Smart Notifications mean every call, message or media notification get displayed on the Garmin Fenix 3’s screen during any activity. It can be a life saver and deal breaker in the most literal of terms. Now, while running or cycling at full tilt, I decide with one glance what to take and what can wait. It does not even end there. I also find Smart Notifications to be very convenient while driving my car, in a movie theatre, or any situation that demands unobtrusive communication.
Just make sure your Fenix 3 is connected with your phone via Bluetooth and have Smart Notifications enabled. It is as easy as that. It is great to enjoy “me-time”, but keeping an open line of communication has advantages of its own. Garmin made this very easy with Smart Notifications. For those suffering from FOMO OCD, Smart Notifications is definitely the way to go!
