Ironman Champion Stuart Marais defends his title at 2018 West Coast WarmWater Weekend

The picturesque West Coast National Park played host once again to a sold out West Coast WarmWater Weekend powered by MiWayLife, where Ironman 70.3 Champion Stuart Marais came back to defend his 2015 title.

Saturday comprised of a sprint and standard distance triathlon, which saw farm boy Stuart Marais  win the standard/long triathlon in a time of 02:05:41

The dream conditions for any triathlete saw local lady Vicky Van Der Merwe dominate the ladies leg of the long triathlon course in a time of 02:32:45

In the ladies, (1st) Vicky Van Der Merwe, (2nd) Alice Oostehuizen and (3rd) Linda Detering. The short triathlon resulted in the following podium positions; Men (1st) Jamie Riddle, (2nd) Samuel Courts and

his dad  (3rd) Jason Courts. In the ladies, (1st) Su-Marie Visser, (2nd) Larissa Krajasich and (3rd) Lizl Hobson.

Conditions on Sunday were perfect for athletes as they competed in either a short (1.6km) and long (3.8km) swim in the calm and clear blue Langebaan Lagoon. The 3.8km swim was extremely narrowly  won in a mad 3 person beach sprint by Rudolph Visser, with SA Champ Michelle Weber coming a very close 3rd overall. Pro swimmer Danie Marais swimming without a wetsuit put on a stellar performance to come in second following a recent shoulder surgery.

This unique, family friendly event is an anticipated fun weekend away for families and friends as it offers something for everyone from triathlon, swims, SUP’ing, volleyball and even a kids splash and dash.

For the second year running, MiFitLife, a product within MiWayLife came on board as a sponsor, offering athletes generous prize money as well as life cover to the value of R500,000 for the duration of the weekend.
