JOBURG 10K CITYRUN Virtual Edition proudly supports four Joburg based charities!

Cotlands is a registered non-profit early childhood development organisation with a rich heritage of 85 years of experience in serving young, vulnerable children. Cotlands’ vision is to see children thrive in their pre-school years by increasing their access to play-based early learning opportunities.

Forming part of SA’s premier road running series, the RUN YOUR CITY Series, the JOBURG 10K CITYRUN Virtual Edition that will take place on Friday 24 September 2021 (National Heritage Day), encourages runners to support four iconic Joburg based charities:  The Reach For A Dream Foundation (RFAD), Cotlands, Johannesburg SPCA and Johannesburg Heritage Foundation.

Established in 1988, Reach For A Dream seeks to inspire hope and help children to believe in the power of dreams.  “We are very excited to be selected as a beneficiary of the 2021 JOBURG 10K CITYRUN Virtual Edition,” says Natalie Lazaris, Reach For A Dream Business Head.  “We have been a beneficiary of the JOBURG 10K CITYRUN for many years and all the proceeds raised have really allowed us to positively impact the lives of children who are fighting a life-threatening illness.  The ability to raise funds again through this platform, especially during these very unforeseen times, is an incredible opportunity for us to continue the wonderful work that we do.  The funds raised will be used towards dream fulfillment for children between the ages of three and 18.”  For further information on Reach For a Dream please visit:  www.reachforadream.org.za

Cotlands is a registered non-profit early childhood development organisation with a rich heritage of 85 years of experience in serving young, vulnerable children. Cotlands’ vision is to see children thrive in their pre-school years by increasing their access to play-based early learning opportunities.  “Initially we had to close our early learning programmes to ensure the safety of practitioners and children during the pandemic,” says Dr Monica Stach, Cotlands CEO.  “Projects were placed on hold and the organisation experienced a decrease in corporate funding over the 2020/21 period.  To say that we need the support would be an understatement.  We are honoured to be selected as one of the preferred charities of the 2021 JOBURG 10K CITYRUN Virtual Edition.  The funds will be used to run our playgroup and toy library programmes, while the sponsorship will help us fulfil our mission to increase access to play-based early learning opportunities for children in disadvantaged communities.”  For further information on Cotlands please visit: www.cotlands.org

The Johannesburg SPCA is a non- profit organisation that started operating in 1902 and is dependent on the kindness and support of individuals and companies.  According to Liana Marx, Johannesburg SPCA Public Relations / Marketing / Fundraising Officer, it is a great honour to be chosen as a beneficiary of the JOBURG 10K CITYRUN Virtual Edition.  “We have really felt the impact of COVID-19.  Many people either lost their jobs, got retrenched or had to take pay cuts.  As a result a larger number of animals have been dropped off at SPCA as owners simply did not have the funds to keep them any longer.  Our food bill more than tripled as we had so many hungry mouths to feed and our medical team had their hands full treating injured and neglected animals.  Funds received will go towards both our food and outreach bills.  Our team is on the road the entire day helping the community by giving blankets and food.  The funds will definitely make it possible for us to assist more animals in need.”  For further information on the Johannesburg SPCA please visit:  www.jhbspca.co.za

The Johannesburg Heritage Foundation was established in 2012 emerging from the foundations laid by the Parktown and Westcliff Heritage Trust.  The Foundation is dedicated to the exploration, documentation, protection and restoration of Johannesburg’s built heritage.  “We are thrilled to be selected as a charity of the JOBURG 10K CITYRUN Virtual Edition,” says Nicola Noble, The Johannesburg Heritage Foundation Board Member.  “We are grateful to the JOBURG 10K CITYRUN for the awareness that is creates for the Foundation and the work that it does.  We’ve been greatly affected by the Pandemic.  We are currently unable to offer walking tours which is the lifeblood of the Foundation and our main source of income.  We have also been unable to host our annual Heritage Weekend which we rely on to create awareness and to generate revenue for the Foundation. Funds received will be spread across the numerous projects that the Foundation is currently undertaking, these include our digitization project, and the installation of blue plaques which inform the public of the history and significance of the site as well as the restoration of heritage buildings.”  For more information on the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation please visit: www.joburgheritage.org.za
