2015 will be the first year that the Munga will take place. It is a mega distance, unsupported mountainbike race starting in Bloemfontein and ending in Wellington. 1000km, solo, non-stop!
There are five rest stations along the race route, spaced roughly 200km apart from the start. At each of these stations riders will be able to eat and sleep. Riders do not have to stop at the station or sleep if they don’t want to. It is totally up to them.
The Munga will be all about managing energy in the most efficient way possible. Not only personal energy resources as a rider but also the energy used to run your lights. Half of the event will take place in the dark if you are racing it. Good, energy efficient lighting will be crucial to every rider’s success!
With Lights by Linea’s moto of delivering energy efficient lighting solution their involvement in support of Hanlie’s effort to attempt this mammoth undertaking made perfect sense. Hanlie is well known in cycling circles with ultra-distance riding her forte. Being an architect she has worked with Lights by Linea in a professional capacity and knows she can rely on their expertise and personal involvement when it comes to delivering a quality service. It will be this kind of support from a sponsor such as Light by Linea that makes taking part in an event such as this possible.
The Munga start on the 2nd of December and the cut-off is 5 days later. 5 Days to discover if you are tough enough to finish what surely will become a new bench mark of endurance in a distance crazy country such as South Africa!
