Stellenbosch (Cape Town) – Known for their remarkable trail running abilities, Antoine van Heerden and Chantel Nienaber will face a tougher challenge on Sunday, 18 October 2015 when they take on the illustrious IMPI Elite Race presented by Mitsubishi Motors at the picturesque Lievland and Warwick Wine Estates in Stellenbosch.

After placing second to Greg Goodall in 2013, Van Heerden is ready for victory. “I enjoy the atmosphere at IMPI the most. It’s so cool that corporates can get involved, dress up and make war cries. IMPI has more gees than any other race in the year. For me the toughest part is any obstacle that features pull ups. From now my training will include lots of speed work to shake off the remains of winter and a bit of upper body strength conditioning.”

According to Nienaber it’s the combination of trail running and obstacles that attracts her to the IMPI Challenge. “I love the diversity of taking on new challenges and attempting to tackle a broad variety of obstacles.   I’m really hoping for a podium finish. I’d recommend the IMPI Challenge to newcomers to the sport because it is a lot of fun and gives you the chance to feel like a child again. The obstacles cater for both elite and novice participants.”

“The obstacles are bigger,” says Pieter Du Plessis, IMPI Challenge Race Director. “The direction in which the race is run will remain the same, but a lot of new running paths have been included. The challenge will lie in the newly built single track. It’s stunning! New obstacles will include the Mitsubishi tyre Exchange. Entrants will run with a tyre in an 800m loop back to the start.   Little Dwarf’s Old Favourite is back. Impi’s need to climb over a series of 2m high poles, on an uphill. Another new addition will be Drag Queen where Impi’s will pull a tyre up a hill and back down again. The toughest part of IMPI is the single track. There are four sections of which one is the renowned Snake Hill. My advice is to take it easy, enjoy it and learn to swim.”
