Ruan Meintjies announced his arrival on the trails this weekend when he beat the current South African long distance trail running champion, Thabang Madiba at the second race of the Spur Gauteng Summer Trail Series™ at Segwati Game Ranch in perfect conditions.

Meintjies put in another sterling performance to follow up on his first place at the first race of the Series last week and is in prime position to take overall honours in this year’s long course Championship with only two races remaining. He ran the 13.2km long course in 48:08, more than 90 seconds faster than last year’s winning time set by another trail running legend, Lucky Miya. Madiba claimed third place, behind Meintjies and Tranquil Gumbo. The ladies long course race was won by Takalani Ndandani who improved her second place at race 1 to take the win this week in 01:05:42.

In the 7.4km short course Challenge race, Luke Schlebusch blitzed home in 29:30 while Adel Terblanche improved her second place at race 1 to take victory this week in 37:10.

The next race of the Series will take place at B’Sorah tented camp this Sunday and the battles for the Championship and Challenge titles are sure to heat up as we head to the conclusion of this year’s Spur Gauteng Summer Trail Series™.
