This new and exciting race kicks off on Church Street in the historical core of Stellenbosch. Runners will warm up with an easy 3km through the city’s sleepy streets before they meet their first challenge of the day, Botmanskop. In only 4km, runners will ascend a steep and rugged 450 meter summit where they will be rewarded with some of the most breath-taking views Stellenbosch has to offer.
From here, runners can enjoy the stunning scenery and moderately technical terrain as they descend down Skyfall towards Bartinney. Once reaching Bartinney at the 10km point, runners may decide to cross the finish line and celebrate their achievement of the Bartinney Dash OR put themselves to the ultimate test and continue along the full course.
The 24km route will guide runners from Bartinney into the Banhoek conservancy where they will be treated to some sensational single track. Once reaching the heart of Banhoek, they will be greeted by the second challenging ascent of the day: 150 metres in 1 km.
Though they have achieved much and their legs will be tired, runners must plan to conserve some energy for the final test of the day. As they approach the finish, runners will have to dig deep as they tackle the final 150m climb in just 1.4km, finishing with some sweet single track promises an exciting sprint finish where runners will land on the front door of Bartinney. Runners will be rewarded with an immense feeling of triumph as they receive their medal for the Bartinney Extreme Challenge.
There will be 3 refreshment stations on route at the 5, 10 and 18km points, but runners doing the 24km are required to carry their own water.
