Gauntlet thrown at 2017 Cell C AfricanX Trailrun

Starting at Trails End, the ideal destination for all adventure seekers, Stage One of the Cell C AfricanX Trailrun presented by ASICS saw teams of two having to conquer an action packed 35km route before crossing the finish line at the picturesque
Houw Hoek Inn.  Ben Matiso  and Retsepile Khotle of Team Edunova set the pace in the men’s race claiming victory in an impressive time of 02 hours 48 minutes 18 seconds. In the women’s race, Reigning Champions Landie Greyling and Megan Mackenzie were leaving nothing to chance, claiming the stage victory in 03 hours 19 minutes 42 seconds.  Team Kway’s AJ Calitz and Nicolette Griffioen set the course ablaze in the mixed team race claiming gold in 03 hours 04 minutes 21 seconds.  Seen here:  Landie Greyling in action on the day. MTO prepares to welcome AfricanX runners to paradise

Stillwater Sports is proud to welcome MTO as an official partner to the Western Cape’s premier three day stage trail run, the Cell C AfricanX Trailrun presented by ASICS.  According to Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports, a large portion of the trails that are enjoyed by runners are on MTO grounds.  “With MTO as an AfricanX partner we are able to improve the route experience of all entrants, thus uplifting the overall experience of the event.  We are proud to have MTO in our corner and look forward to hosting a trail running experience like no other.”  MTO will be hosting a ‘Chill Zone’ on route.  Trail runners are invited to take a breather, enjoy a glass of cold water and a snack before taking on the rest of the stage.  AfricanX runners can also enter an exciting MTO competition that will be running at the Chill Zone.  Prizes will include annual MTO passes and custom made running shirts.

AfricanX Stage Three will conclude on a high note

Starting at Wildekrans Wine Estate and finishing at the historical Houw Hoek Inn, the third and final stage of the 2017 Cell C AfricanX Trailrun presented by ASICS will close off on a high note on Sunday, 19 March 2017.

AfricanX honours entrants

Trail runners taking part in the 9th annual Cell C AfricanX Trailrun presented by ASICS the weekend of 17 – 19 March 2017 are encouraged to send through their nominations for the event’s cherished ‘Sanet Wentzel Spirit Award’.  Introduced in 2010, one year after the AfricanX’s inception, the award was founded in memory of Sanet Wentzel, an AfricanX participant who passed away tragically at the end of 2009 after being knocked down by a car during a morning training run.  In 2016 the ‘Sanet Wentzel Spirit Award’ was presented to Stella Smit, an AfricanX runner from Paarl who had undergone open brain surgery to remove a cancerous tumour.
