Overstrand welcomes FNB W2W MTB Adventure riders

Three days of exceptional mountain biking concluded just outside of Hermanus on Sunday, 06 November 2016 with elated mountain bikers completing the final 69km stage (featuring a 1200 climb) of the 2016 FNB Wines2Whales (W2W)
Mountain Bike (MTB) Adventure.  The final destination stage, Stage Three of the FNB W2W MTB Adventure started at the picturesque Oak Valley Wine Estate (Elgin-Grabouw) and finished at the Onrus Caravan Park. Riders in awe of FNB W2W’s Stage Two Play Day

Stage Two of the FNB Wines2Whales (W2W) Mountain Bike (MTB) Adventure, the much awaited ‘Play Day’, was welcomed with much enthusiasm on Saturday, 05 November 2016.  The only stage to start and finish at the same venue,
Oak Valley Wine Estate (Elgin-Grabouw), mountain bikers had to complete a 64km route (with 1400 ascent) that included some of W2W’s most iconic sections such as the Paul Cluver Amphi Bike Park with well-known MTB features such as
Raka, Swing, Ark, Cobra (switch-backs), Mamba, Boomslang, Pofadder, Jakkels, Pine Singles (now with dual and cross-overs) and the Berms.  The Stage Three action was closed off with the triple storeyed KROMCO-PERI Bike Park, which stands

FNB W2W MTB Adventure kicks off at Lourensford Wine Estate

Stage One of the FNB Wines2Whales (W2W) Mountain Bike (MTB) Adventure kicked off at the picturesque Lourensford Wine Estate on Friday, 04 November 2016.  Cool weather conditions proving to be the norm at the FNB W2W MTB Adventure, the first destination stage of the event saw an impressive field of 1344 riders (672 teams of two) having to complete a 68km MTB route with a 1420m ascent, from Lourensford Wine Estate (Somerset West) to the festival village at the majestic Oak Valley Wine Estate (Elgin-Grabouw), home for the next two day. FNB W2W MTB Race attracts a stellar international field

Celebrating its 8th anniversary in November, the FNB Wines2Whales (W2W) Mountain Bike (MTB) Race has attracted a stellar field of international riders.  Riders to look out for over the weekend will include:  German MTB duo, Karl Platt and Simon Stiebjahn of Team Bulls, German Tour De France heroes Markus Bauer and Johannes Fröhlinger of Team Giant Alpecin Kreidler, Team Investec-Songo-Specialized’s Christoph Sauser (Switzerland) with Sam Gaze (New Zealand ) and Swiss mountain bikers Konny Looser and Fabian Giger of Team BiXS Pro.  Seen here:  Team Bulls’ Simon Stiebjahn (featured in the photograph) and Karl Platt will make their W2W debut on Friday, 11 November 2016.  “I supported some friends at the 2014 event,” says Stiebjahn. “It looked like a lot of fun and the riders only spoke positively about the route.  W2W is special for various reasons including the fact that it starts in the wine region and ends close to Hermanus.  The event perfectly depicts the diversity and loveliness of the Western Cape.”

FNB W2W MTB Stage One Route announced

The 2016 FNB Wines2Whales (W2W) Mountain Bike (MTB) Events will kick off on Friday, 04 November 2016 with the FNB W2W MTB Adventure.  The first of two destination stages, Stage One is the ideal ice breaker with riders starting off at the picturesque Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West, traversing a 68km route that includes a 1420m climb and the infamous portage section at Gantouw Pass, before crossing the finish line at the majestic Oak Valley Wine Estate (Elgin-Grabouw), home for two days.
