With the KZN river canoeing season underway, the build up to the iconic Dusi Canoe Marathon is already underway with the 2015 Umpetha Challenge on Sunday, 8 November representing a first major hit out on local waters and paths for many Dusi hopefuls.
The race covers the first 16km of the Dusi Canoe Marathon, starting at Camps Drift and finishing at the Bishopstowe Farmers Hall at the highest point of the Campbell’s Farm portage and includes well known obstacles such as the Ernie Pearce Weir, Commercial Road Weir, Musson’s Weir, Low Level Bridge and Taxi Rapid before the paddlers carry their craft up the Pine Tree option of the Campbell’s Farm Portage and then turn back to the finish at the Bishopstowe Farmers Hall.
