Torpedo SwimRun has been the new sports group in South Africa that has been organizing unique SwimRun races since 2017. This race is different to any other kind in South Africa in that athletes team up with a partner, and together run and swim across the stunning nature that the country has on offer. Each race differs in the number of running and swimming segments, and the distances. As an added feature, athletes are required to race in all their kit at all times. This means that SwimRunners swim with their shoes on and run in their wetsuits! Since its inception in South Africa, the number of participants has grown exponentially, and more races have been introduced.

The races on offer are:

Torpedo SwimRun WILD (26km) and FLOW (10km): 13th-14thSeptember 2019, Wilderness

Torpedo SwimRun MOON (15km): 27thOctober 2019, Cradle Moon Lake

Torpedo SwimRun CAPE (16km): 17thNovember 2019, Cape Town

Torpedo SwimRun VAL DE VIE (10km): 2ndFebruary 2020, Val de Vie

SwimRunners are expected to traverse over routes that other sporting events in the country do not utilize. This includes exploring the Kaaiman’s river in the upcoming WILD event and discovering hidden gems of Cape Town’s Atlantic seaboard in the CAPE event. These events have been described by other athletes as some of the toughest racing that exist locally, but also the most beautiful.
