South Africa’s Premier Sporting Retailer, Totalsports has teamed up with Fives Futbol in Cape Town, Ajax soccer player Nathan Paulse and South African comedian and actor Siv Ngesi, to deliver 67 Totalsports soccer balls to four sports focused community centers on Nelson Mandela Day, 18 July 2015.
The soccer balls will be given to the Langa Orphanage, Mfuleni Soccer Pitch, Khayelitsha Soccer Pitch and the Football for Hope Centre. This project is aimed at developing youth interest in sport, with a focus on local underprivileged communities that lack simple resources, such as access to soccer balls.
Teams will leave from Fives Century City at midday, aiming to reach the Coaching For Hope Centre in Khayelitsha at 4pm. The first two stops are in Langa and the second two are in Khayelitsha, with several ad-hoc stops at intersections and roadsides along the route.
Charmaine Claasens, Head of Marketing for Totalsports said: “We believe that sport has the power to change lives and are showing our commitment to transform and empower the youth through the culture of sport. We are excited to be distributing 67 Totalsports soccer balls to various youth organisations, in order to inspire the next generations of young footballers in the community.”
“We are very excited about Mandela Day 2015 and our initiative with Totalsports and Uber is an incredibly simple, yet effective, catalyst. It can motivate education on a variety of topics and issues, inspire hope and act as a distraction from surrounding negativities. Fives Futbol hopes to plant this seed to drive tangible change. We will be distributing 67 footballs to the youth around Langa and Khayelitsha. From ad-hoc drop offs to orphanages and football academies, we hope to put smiles on faces and kick-start something great,” said Aaron Zipper, Fives Futbol, Branding and Marketing Manager.
