All systems are going for the historic 2015 Voet van Afrika Marathon. The race will take place within the Mega Sport Classic weekend filled with sport and development on Saturday, 17 October at Mega Park, Bredasdorp.
According to Elana Meyer, endorser of this tough classic marathon the best news is that the Voet will be back on a great part of the original Voet van Afrika route over the mountain. Meyer won her first half marathon, the event in which she held the world senior record five times in her career, at the age of 13 at the Voet.
Elana’s co-star at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games and winner of the gold in the Olympic Marathon Jusiah Thugwane is the current holder of the more than 20 year old Voet van Afrika marathon record on the historic route.
The race is the most southern 42.2km on the African continent. The 38th Voet will coincide with an exciting and comprehensive national sport expo, Top 10 schools athletics, youth development and road race family program for the full weekend from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October.
The Voet, currently the third most popular marathon in South Africa will this year be supported by Cape Agulhas Municipality, Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport and the Nedbank Runner’s Guide. The 42.2km, 21.1km and 10km races will all finish indoor at the 8 000m² Mega Park exhibition centre.
