May 2018: The first of four Western Cape Spur Schools MTB League events kicks-off on 9 June in Somerset West and young MTB enthusiasts are encouraged to saddle-up and come out in full force to represent their schools this season.

The Spur Schools Mountain Bike League was launched by Spur Steak Ranches and Amarider in 2009. The initiative aims to provide a level of regional and national structure for the sport at school level and seeks to encourage schools to adopt MTB as an official in-school sport. As the second biggest region in the League, the Western Cape is expected to see yet another healthy spike in participation numbers this year.

The Spur Schools MTB League is the country’s largest high school cycling programme and the main nursery for talent in the sport.  Entries for the 2018 season are officially open and riders are urged to visit www.spurmtbleague.co.za to register.
