There’s no such things as an “easy” day in the Epic, and when the best MTB riders in the world take a shade under 4 hours to complete the “short” stage of the Epic, then you know, it’s not easy.
And still the race for the overall continues, with bad luck being dished out to many of the leading protagonists with the adage being that it’s how you deal with, “when it happens, not if it happens”.
Race leaders had to concede their Yellow Jersey to Olympic & World Champion Nino Shurter and his partner Matthias Stirnemann – who won the stage and dictated the pace to earn the right to wear the prestigious jersey.
Team Pyga Euro Steel
Phil and Matthys finished 9th on the Stage and clawed their way back up the GC to 9th from 11th overnight as the tussle for the Top 10 continues.
Partner choice in Epic is a large part of your success to completing this race. To do it with a partner of the opposite gender offers it’s own additional challenges. However, the racing in this category continues to be so competitive and Olympic Champion Jenny Rissveds leads the category with previous Olympic medallist Thomas Frischknect, giving an indication of the level.
The Exxaro Jersey
The Exxaro Jersey is another prestigious jersey to own and the standard of racing continues to rise every year, with the leading riders not being assured of stage victory on any day. To be victorious in this category requires racing at the highest level, consistency through out the week.
