Hartbeespoort (North West Province) – A trail run with a twist, it’s no secret that the IMPI Challenge has attracted the attention of a number of South Africa’s top trail runners.  The IMPI Challenge Gauteng #2 is no exception, with top trail runner Nicolette Griffioen eagerly awaiting the opportunity to conquer fun and exciting obstacles at the Van Gaalens Cheese Farm (Hartbeespoort) on Thursday, 24 September 2015.

“I often have to do some introspection on whether I’m a trail runner or multisport athlete,” laughs Griffioen.  “Long term I think I’ll focus on multisport racing, but my training is currently run-specific. I absolutely love technical trails.  This will be the third time that I take part in IMPI.  I entered because I cannot resist a good challenge.”

“I enjoy the unity between the built obstacles and the natural environment,” continues Griffioen.  “There are no massive concrete or steel support structures, while the venue doesn’t look like a construction site after the race.  Transitioning from a trail runner to an obstacle course competitor is not difficult.  All the obstacles are doable without the requirement of any additional training for a trail runner, but for someone aiming to podium, it is essential to add upper-body strengthening.  I recommend IMPI to all athletes because it takes place at an awesome venue, features fantastic trails and the obstacles are challenging but fun.”
